PLDT launches TV over DSL service, Watch TV online on your LCD WATCHPAD

Local telecommunications giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. seeks to enlist more broadband subscribers by introducing a new service that makes it easier to watch television over the Internet.

PLDT announced yesterday that through its innovation, “Watchpad,” myDSL subscribers can now watch their favorite TV shows and films online. Initial channels now available include National Geographic, Cartoon Network, Pinoy Box Office, CNN, Animax Mobile, CNBC, and GMA 7.

-PLDT Watchpad seeks to provide broadband subscribers a “revolutionary” service that combines a broadband connection with rich multimedia content.

The company announced that the Watchpad service can be best experienced starting with myDSL P1299 monthly plan. The service is available for free to all myDSL subscribers nationwide, who just need to go online at www.pldtwatchpad.com to get their username and password.
-
-PLDT customer sales and marketing group head Eric Alberto said PLDT Watchpad was a fitting demonstration of synergy in the PLDT group made possible by a partnership with Mediascape, its media partner.

“Through the years, we have continuously reached more households more than all competitors with high impact, direct-hitting acquisition programs, which not only raised awareness and relevance of Internet, but also changed the overall complexion of the business,” Alberto said.

He said the company’s commitment to innovate had earned PLDT myDSL “the most preferred broadband status” four times more preferred over the nearest competition.

“There’s something for everyone on Watchpad. While surfing, DSL subscribers can watch the hottest channels, movies and even play online games for free. You can even update your Facebook, Multiply and Twitter accounts without having to leave your Watchpad Player,” said PLDT myDSL assistant vice president Gary Dujali.

He said there would be bigger broadband offerings in the coming months.

How do I register?
As stated above, you need to be a PLDT myDSL subscriber. In the registration, you’ll be asked for your PLDT myDSL account number and PLDT myDSL telephone number. And upon submission, they verify if the account number matches the telephone number. Obviously, you cannot guess. Once the verification process is done, an email will be sent.

By the way, they only allow 1 WATCH PAD account per PLDT myDSL account number.

FAQ http://www.pldtwatchpad.com/FAQ.html

For Plan 1299 subscribers you will get unlimited DSL plus a landline and a WatchPad.  Internet connection is now up to 768 kbps.  For Plan 990 subscribers just add another Php 300 to your landline bill. To apply you just need to present a valid ID and sign-up for the 1 year lock-up period.

11) What is myPad?

ANSWER: myPad is a website that showcases PLDT and SMART products and services. It also provides you the latest local and international news, sports, technology, lifestyle and entertainment information. You can view exclusive never-before-seen video clips as well as listen to music clips if you are a myPad subscriber.  It also gives you the ability to text mobile phones and PCs through your computer and call abroad via your PC. You can download ring tones and logos and purchase gaming PINs. All of your online transactions will be conveniently charged to your PLDT phone bill. Our system is also very secure, all transactions will reflect on your phone bill. No hassle of using your credit card.

* If you are a DSL or Vibe subscriber, you can even check your email using the myPad website, which makes it more convenient for you since everything you need is already here in this site!

Furthermore we offer a credit limit of P2,000, P500 and P350 to make monitoring transactions and budgeting expenses more convenient for its subscribers.

2)      Where can I find the site?

ANSWER: Simply log on to www.mypad.net to view the site, which also includes a “Take our virtual tour” guide highlighting some of its features. To access other features like online purchasing (or any other feature that involves a monetary transaction), you first have to register and be approved for an account.

3) How do I register with myPad?

ANSWER: The user may register via an online registration application in the web site. The user will be called within 24 hours by a PLDT representative to verify if user is the subscriber on record or if he/ she has the permission of the subscriber on record to register for a myPad account.

4)      Why do I have to wait before I am approved?

ANSWER: This is to verify your intent to register and to make sure that you are actually the subscriber on record asking for the service. If you’re not, you must have the permission of the subscriber on record to register for a myPad account. All online transactions made on myPad will be charged to your PLDT phone bill, so verification is a very important part of the process.

5)      How come I don’t qualify to register?

ANSWER: You must have a PLDT postpaid bill and you must have paid all of your unsettled accounts. It is necessary that you settle all your un-paid dues since your transactions online will be charged to your PLDT statement of account. The latter is needed, as PLDT will not allow users to purchase additional items on credit. To qualify for registration, simply ensure you have a PLDT phone line, Internet connection and that you have paid all of your outstanding balances with PLDT.

-Now, only being offered through the company’s myDSL product, Herna said in the next months, PLDT will be offering this to other PLDTinternet products, such as WeRoam, and SmartBro.Developed only in two-months time, WAtchPad’s basic programming like the access to television and cable channels will be offered for free, however, for those premium programs like in-demand movies and others will be extra charges.
The best feature of the new service is the buffer-time free video streaming which does not require a lot of memory space from personal computers or desktops, unlike in conventional video-sharing sites.

Viewer comments:  May I ask why you don’t just go online to the website of the station that has your favorite programs? Places like www.hulu.com and the famous youtube have more programming than you can watch. Don’t forget pbs.org. I once purchased a list of 3,000 online TV stations for about USD $20 and REALLY got my moneys’ worth out of it.Start here:http://www.smartdig italtelevision. com/ for more online television than you can possibly watch.

And, use your computer hard drive to save the video files. I have an external 500Gig one costs less than USD $100 that works great. You can always burn a DVD if you must have some video for whatever reasons…

You can even watch world shows like ABC, CBS, BBC online and in another blog mentioned you can watch the manny pacquiaofight online next month.

You can actually get the installer from http://www.pldtwatchpad.com/, I got mine installed, but not working.. no videos comes up. I reported it to the PLDT Watchpad support and they told me they still have some problems on the back end specially for slower connection (I have Bundle 990, 384 kbps, but request for an upgrade to Bundle 1299, 784kbps).  However, I never received the installer from mail.  BTW, I have an XP system.

You can actually just do everything online. I installed this over two computers over the last week. I had to download Windows Installer 3.1 and Microsoft .net framework in order to completely launch the app.
video is small, perhaps of our subscription. Hanggang pang pacquiao cotto lang talaga.

Guys have you read the terms and conditions?
“2. Acceptable Use of the Service
Whenever the subscriber will access the Service, subscriber shall consent and is hereby giving full authority to PLDT to charge the monthly charges of the Service to subscribers PLDT telephone account. (At the moment, the Service is free of charge but PLDT reserves the right to impose the necessary monthly charges in the future)”
“3. Payment

I think this is a trap. You will be automatically charged in the futute after the free trial
has ended.

[...] PLDT expects new ‘Watchpad’ service to revolutionize online entertainment October 25, 2009 Posted by philippinetech in Uncategorized. Tags: pldt dsl, pldt online, pldt philippines dsl, pldt tv pad, pldt watchpad, pldt weroam, pldt wireless. trackback Multitasking online suddenly got a lot more entertaining. At least for subscribers of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) Company’s myDSL broadband internet service, there is now one more reason to go online. With its recently launched Watchpad, users can now watch their favorite TV shows in streaming video for free even as they surf the web, check their emails, update their social networking status, write their blogs, chat in real time and play online games. With Cignal HD as content provider, Watchpad is a revolutionary service that combines broadband connection with rich multimedia content. Initially available right off the bat are popular free TV and cable channels National Geographic, Cartoon Network, MTV, Pinoy Box Office, CNN, Animax Mobile, CNBC and GMA-7. PLDT myDSL subscribers only need to register at http://www.pldtwatchpad.com to get a username and password in order to access them for free. “While it’s true that you can access streaming videos of your favorite shows in the internet from various sources online, what we did here at Watchpad is bring them all together under one online roof,” says PLDT Retail Business Group Head Dan Ibarra. “So our users can spend more time watching, surfing, chatting and blogging instead of searching the web for these show.” And that’s not all. Watchpad is also introducing myFlicks, its own one-stop, commercial-free movie central channel which will show the acclaimed films of 2009 Cannes International Film Festival Best Director Brilliante Mendoza starting this month. Mendoza, who has so far directed a total of eight films, is the first Filipino to get this prestigious recognition at the annual film festival held in France. During the press conference launching his inclusion in Watchpad’s initial entertainment line-up, Mendoza said he’s very pleased to see his films such as Serbis, Twilight Dancers, Masahista, Mamoro, Foster Child and soon, Kaleido and the award-winning but controversial Kinatay be exposed to a wider, online audience, he pointed out that since myFlicks is still subject to MTRCB regulations, only the MTRCB-approved cuts of his films will be shown in Watchpad. For PLDT’s part, Ibarra and AVP Gary Dujali announced that aside from those by Mendoza, more acclaimed films from the country’s best directors are coming soon at Watchpad. Another exclusive Watchpad channel, myView, will feature special shows from popular celebrities like Isabel Oli who will discuss her fashion tips and Rhian Ramos who will dwell on her own celebrity status in myLife. Also in myView are the latest showbiz gossip from respected industry scribes like Shirley Pizarro, Isah Red, Dolly Anne Carvajal and Ricky Lo. Dujali pointed out that the Watchpad service is not just limited to films and television but also the latest online games from LevelUp! Games. Initially available for Watchpad are CrazyKart and Hello Kitty Online Philippines. With regards to the speed and quality of the streaming videos and overall quality of the service as a whole, Dujali and Ibarra are one in saying that while Watchpad is available to all PLDT myDSL subscribers, “the service is best experienced for those who are subscribed to Plan 1299 and higher.” Plan 1299 is also the minimum requirement for those who want to enjoy the streaming videos of available Watchpad entertainment in High Quality (HQ) resolution. According to Ibarra, PLDT has a total subscriber base of over 1.5 million for both its wired and wireless broadband service. He said he expects this number to significantly increase with the introduction of Watchpad. Dujali also reveals that there are plans to acquire 25 to 30 more channels to augment the service as it continues to be a hit with PLDT myDSL subscribers. He hinted, however, that just like cable TV providers, PLDT may also require subscribers to pay a premium for certain channels as well as special shows like the pay-per-view fights of Manny Pacquiao, among others.    Read the original article here http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/226365/pldt-expects-new-watchpad-service-revolutionize-online-entertainment Read how to sign up here and what packages are available and reviews http://philippinestuff.wordpress.com/2009/10/13/pldt-launches-tv-over-dsl-service-watch-tv-online-on...
